updating from this gap, youre doing. needs wipe and format data.

1. download needed ROM for update
2. boot to twrp
3. Advance Wipe (Wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik, System)
4. Flash new ROM for update
4. Format Data
5. Reboot & wait

thanks for your reply; just a clarification; you say I need to "format data" after flashing the update (it's the second n. 4 step in your list); I think it's a mistake? did you mean clean davilk and cache maybe? If I format data after flashing ROM I loose everything once again.

its needed so that you wont end up booting to TWRP. it will eventually delete pictures contacts and everything.
so its best to backup your data. but if you are thinking about the newly flashed ROM you had. it will not be affected, because the system partition stays as it is. also, if you have a separate partition on your phone (SD card), then you can Advance Wipe & Format Data sequentially. but if your phone dont have SD card. then its best to
3. Advance Wipe
4. Install ROM
5. then Format Data
so that you will never need to copy the ROM again, to your phone because it will also be deleted after Format Data.
